The 6800 is looking pretty spiffy now, but it still needs DX9.0C.

There's over 15 games coming out with support for it in the next 2-3 months. Nvidia has put up money for top games to implement it.

since Nvidia's $20 million can be very persuasive and help developers and especially publishers to upgrade their games from Shader 2.0 to 3.0.

This can only be bad for ATI, even though they shrug it off, it's like it's not going to do ANYTHING, and the cards are allready so close, this will surely push it over the 2FPS average better that ATI holds.

Direct X 9.0C is kicking about, its included in some of the XP SP2 RC's and it has been successfully extrapolated and packaged up for redistrbution by the various enthusiast communities. However, its nowhere near fully stable from what i've heard, and, if anything, seems to decrease performance,

Well, technically yes it is an official release, as it was included as part of Microsofts official XP SP2 Release Candidate(s). Indeed, its even recognised by programs such as 3dMark etc as DX9.0C.

RC is not the final, even if it is official.

It seems like a lot of work to get DX9c out, unless they have a 6800 card. as we all know, there ain't a lot of them floating around.

I noticed it wasnt on the windows update page. When it's hit that, then it's really considered 'official' I guess.

even if it does hit soon, I don’t think Ill have any need for it, I’m running 9800Pro, but I’m not sure if its going to make any difference in performance wise, I did have a try at installing SP2 not to long back if you can remember, what was my outcome, CRASH, I did something wrong I think, but I have seen some "Beta DX9c" Floating round but I dare not to install it, My new system is going to be coming soon, I’m hoping for the 6800 ultra, wife’s orders, sell your old one, get your new one, stay away from the Bank Account, Poor woman gets terrified when new Video cards come out, I honestly don’t know why.;)
