Gabe Newell states that VALVe is going after the cheat makers and distributors:
We've started taking legal action against cheating (cheat-sites, cheat creators,...) both in the US and abroad. This is in addition to the on-going investments in anti-cheating technology. You'll see reports of this percolating up as various actions happens.

you can fallow the thread on the link below :)

I believe they are referring more to online cheaters, were they are not welcome. Sure there are servers that allow cheating for fun, but alot of them do not.

I sometimes throw in cheat codes (single player) after I beat it b/c it's alot of fun just to shoot everything up and be invurnerable etc...

Multiplayer though... they should punish them by taking away their computer.

How can they realistically go against cheaters? Cheat makers sure, there are clauses in EULAs against reverse engineering stuff. But online cheating, offensive as it is, what is there technically against it, and with that, what is there against cheat distribution?

Well if the cheat messes with the data flow between client and server, I believe that would be against most EULA's.

Yes, and I was asking what there was against distributors. (just being long-winded about it :D)

The web site's that host them. Not really sure, but if it's deemed illegal content, I would assume that the web site's that post them could be held accountable to at least take them down.

sounds good to me. :D

i use to love playing CS. but after a while it got verry old to get shot by someone running, not even looking your direction and hit you in the head...

cheaters sucks. they sould make a cheat buster that, if you cheat it would send a signal to you system and fry your video card...:r

that would teach them...

This is an intersting issue and have often wondered if some form of this (Cheating and or hacking into the mutiplayer domain) is happening when I play BF 1942 or Vietnam as once in awhile i just for no reason get cut off the server and or aswitched to the other side ..righ tin the middle of playing... is cheating going on here..it sure makes me mad as heck...and i want to strangle somebody.

I believe it is the job of gamemakers to come up with some sort of devices or integration into their game for online ...so these people cannot play there or in the future. It just hurts the average joe who just wants and has a right to play like everyone else the way the game is intended.

We are not all saints .nor do alot of us do everything with the most honerable intentions always..as thats the internet..but a line should be drawn somewhere..and the buck should stop here.

Why don't they integrate PunkBuster (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php) into HL much like it was integrated into RTCW: ET? It's constantly being updated so it should prevent new and upcoming cheats.

i don't know if they fixed it, but Steam use to have so many bugs in it, that's not even funny.

and they were more cheaters there, then it was before it comes along...

Doubt it, sounds like average behviour for online games, also you'll probably fidn the team-switching is probably part of the servers auto-team balancing
