When you say "chat" you're refering to real voice conversation or text based chat? Does MSN allow that?

I use an older version of Roger Wilco to talk during game play. There is a new version out. But I do not like using "Game Spy" based anything on my computer.
I can send you a copy of the older version. Hit me with a pm if you want it.

I use Ventrilo right now and it works decent for most games, but I am also looking for another proggy that doesn't have the lag delay. The problem I have with Ven is that the delay makes it impossible for close formation flying as when the leader says bank and then starts it, no one has heard the command and it turns out to be a mid air explosion. Of course right before our wings meet, we "hear" the bank command, but by that time.....:x

Ventrilo is the way to go. A novice may have some difficulty setting it up, but the quality is worth it.
I have used Roger Wilco, TeamSpeak, Xfire and a few other chat programs but Ventrilo is tops in my book.

The rvs clan im in uses ventrilo...we have an upgraded codec for it (although it escapes me which one). At any rate, never had a prob with it. We've never run into bad delays. I'm pinging around 20-35 usually on it while everyone is talking. Once in a blue moon everyone drops, but I think that is a server issue.
However, I've never used any other voice software so I have no basis to compare it to other programs.

Ventrilo is by far the best, but you have to know someone with it and use their account (they have to be on to) or you have to pay a monthly fee for the good version of it that has it's own server.

Vampiel you are incorrect, anyone can run a Ventrilo server at any time and for free.
More information can be found here.

From what I heard the ventrilo free version has alot of lagg time as stated before. I guess it varies. That's what I meant when I said 'know someone with it'. Ive never used the free version, but your right, it look's like you can still run a server.

I usually host the game server (Ghost Recon, UT2004, Joint Ops) and Ventrilo with 5 people total on my 3.0 Mbps download / 284 kbps upload cable connection and have never had any lag or problems whatsoever.
For free, it's perfect!

This is a great place to be a member.
I decided to use team speak for my 2v2 in warcraft3 with my teamate. I host with my 350 meg cable and 250kb upload. all is great. and TS'S format is easy to use. Ventrillo is nice bit I like the TS lay out. thank you all very much.
