As my dad used to say...."some people got more money than sense". I like the case, but as stated earlier... built my last gaming machine based on the older model before the 64 came out and cost me about half the price. I have only built 3 pc's to date, but it is something that I really enjoy. Who would have ever thought that an ex jock would enjoy (as we used to call it in the old days when I was in high school) being a "geek". :p Will never buy another rig off the shelf.

I will be building my next machine, no matter what. I don't want to pay $300 more for a system that could be bought with better components for the same money just because the computer has a name brand logo on it.

last we forget gentlemen that this is Alienware so this price should come to no shock to us at all.
I wouldn't imagine that there'd be any way to get that Dual Video card thingy that Alienware uses unless you buy their system.
Apparently it's worth 1,600$
... or is that not even out yet? In that case Holy...

yep the Dual Video they have patented to them, they are the only systems running Dual Video.

"some people got more money than sense".
Or more money than time.
Most people aren't capable of building their own computers, and don't have the time to learn to be capable. These compuers are right for some people, and wrong for others. That dosen't make them dumb for buying them. For me, I would be throwing my money away buying a prebuilt computer, but I think ill stick with the Dell recomendation for my grandmother.

That's why some of us are not out of a job. Indeed I can charge alot more for the higher end system's cause the people that buy them, have the money for them.
That computer is a complete rip-off. They must make over $2000 on it.

I think its the titanium case, the solid platinum laser mouse and the diamond encrusted front bezel that is raising the price.

$5K for any home user system is just ridiculous. My Father-in-law, who has no clue about computers, wanted to buy 2 Alienware systems (1 for him 1 for the wife) so he could keep track of his contacts :D
Maybe I can convince him to buy me one for setting-up his home network :r J/K. I informed him that the systems he was thinking about may be a "little" to over-spec.d for his requirements - I think $1900 worth of home built system would be more than enough for him with all the bells and whistles (LCD monitors not included .;)

thats 5 months morgage for me, I would never in my life pay for something like that, the thing will be out dated in 5 months, the only thing it has going for it is the dual Video if anything, but im sure someone is going to pay to use there patented if they can.

DozerLYP
06-22-2004, 11:32 PM
that's not out yet.
they patented a MB that can use 2 video card, and make them work togeter. for faster FPS. it kind of work like a RAID0, but with video card.
but im sure someone is going to pay to use there patented if they can.
or they'll come out with one that uses 3 card...:D

Alienware is high on themselves. They could easily lower costs so people could start buying them. For goodness sakes if you take off the alien head on the front it looks like a dehumidifier! If you anyone buys that gay *** machine they should be entitled to hang themselves. The system is for spoiled *** rich M.F.s, who can't make their own PC so they make their parents pay for the top-o-the-line stuff that they don't think twice about buying.
Stop thinking about that piece of sh**!

That's interesting. That's not the first and only dual video setup though. Remember the Voodoo days?
Magua
06-23-2004, 12:30 PM
I see nothing wrong with people buying a system like that, most people don't have the knowledge to build their own PC, and Dell/Gateway don't have machines as powerful as the alienware. People here want top of the line machines, and so do many people who can't build thier own. That dosen't make them dumb, and it dosen't mean they are wasting there money. For many people here it would be a waste, but for others its a perfect solution.

It's very different from that, the Voodoo thingy didn't increase performance, This does. the only thing they have in common is "Dual video cards" in the description.

2 Vodoo's in SLI mode did increase performance alot.

ahh yes, I forgot about Vodoo, I have one of them in my inlaws computer that uses dual Video, ALX prolly have something else in there that makes it there patent.

I must say that it is most unfortunate that I read this thread before buying an Alienware. The SLX can be overclocked, whoever said that it couldn't in the threads, so the liquid cooling is justified. As for the website that this thread is advertised on, their computers are pieces of sh**. My neighbor Randy Mathis bought a "Sting 5604" after reading this thread. When he got the computer in (after 3 weeks being sent) the first thing he checked was the hard drive. The website advertises a 7200 RPM IBM hard drive. When inspected the hard drive was actually 4200 rpm hard drive that is probably 50 years old. The case had various nicks and scratches in the paint and looked like it had been walked on by the cleats of a football team. So Randy calls the tech support to inquire about his damaged computer. He waits for 4 hours on hold and FINALLY gets to a representative. These computers are pieces of **** and I can't belive how they claim to be as good as alienware.
I bought the Alienware Area 51-m (3.4 ghz, 2 gig ram, radeon 9700 128 mgb video card) and omg i'm freakin amazed. The pain job is flawless and the computer feels like one solid piece of aluminum with no loose parts or any creaking noises when held on one side. The whole computer screams quality. It was packed to the max with padding in the box, whereas the "sting" was shipped with minimal packaging that looked like it had been done in about 10 mins. My lappy shipped in exactly 2 weeks 4 days. I called the tech support line just to see how good it was. I was talking to a representative within 10 mins. BLAZING FAST computer with great looks and aluminum case....did i mention the sting h ad a PLASTIC case with a 120 watt adapter? (alienware offers a 300 watt ac adapter)
If alienware is so shi**y then why the hell do they have around 200 awards since they have been in business? If alienware could be built with that kind of quality don't you think someone would have found out other than a message board of disgruntled gamers? These systems have been inspected and tested by the best people out there and reviewed on multiple TV shows such as the screen savers and in magazines...all of them.. I find it funny that people critisize alienware instead of voodoo. Voodoo Envy series of computers cost around 5,000-8,000 dollars and thats for the LAPTOP. That kind of price is what you call "unreasonable". This stupid "Widow PC" company probably paid off some drooling kinds wanting to buy adena for Lineage 2 to write these reviews to discourage alienware buyers. This thread is a hilarious mockery of one of the best gaming computer brands around and I hate it for alienware that people like you exist. Have a nice day.

If you can construct a laptop cheaper, could you post a site where you can buy decent laptop cases with good screens on them that aren't 30 year old relics? And post a website that ensures 24/7 tech support and return policy on all computer parts and laptop screens? (if not inclueded with the body casing)
