Maxblast, Maxtor's diagnosis tool, only works with IDE drives. So, what tool can I use to test a Maxtor SATA drive?

I can't believe that Maxtor does not have a tool that will test a drive that they make.

I suppose I could use Scandisk. Is that as accurate? How do you access Scandisk in XP Pro?

Start, right-click My Computer, Manage, Disk Management, right-click the Volume, Properties, Tools, Check Now, Start.

Whats the model # of the drive?

Did you try this one? Looks like it works, just not on drives that are on raid controlers.

Yeah, I tried that one. It would only see the IDE drives. So, all it saw were the DVD burner and the 250 Zip drive. RAID was not enabled.

The above link states that it works. Very strange. That seems to be the only utility avalable from maxtor.

How did the windows scan go?

You're right. It does. Weird. I could give Maxtor a call tomorrow and see what they say.

I'm not with the client right now, and he has the computer. He's pretty busy, as am I, so it will have to wait until tomorrow when I go over there to network the computers. I built two identical systems for him.

Of course, I have to get this one to a trouble-free status first. I'm still going to say that it is a software conflict of some sort. We'll see.

There is an identical drive in the system (a clone of the active drive; both are in removable racks). So, he might try to use that and see if it freezes up as well. I highly doubt it will.
