i have a new cd-rom genius 40x and it runs games fine but when i try to play audios it freezes

Juniors' suggestion is to go into device manager and cd rom properties.. then settings tab.. and uncheck DMA.

Might be the Busmaster IDE driver that is the problem. It is possible to get a bad audio CD, have you tried several? some CDROMs are just miserable at audio CDs, namely the 12x Pioneer (have 2 of the beasts), I have a 4x Sanyo that plays audio CDs the 12x won't. But no problems with the 36x and 40x.
