Yes, its true. I don't have a DVD player! Well, with the exception of a Playstation 2!
I have an AVI file. I want to view it on my PS2. What do I need to do?
I have Nero to burn stuff. Is this enough?

Jon

Do you have a DVD burner?

If you don't have a DVD player in a PC then you won't be making your own DVDs either.
Buy a DVD burner then you will have a player and you won't need the Playstation for DVDs.

I have a DVD burner. Don't fancy sitting in my office to watch DVD's thanks!
You will need more than Nero. Basically, you need to convert, or encode, the AVI to a MPEG2 file, then author the DVD, and then burn it.
The best place to learn how to do this is here...

Go to their "How to" guides on the left side.

Get your hands on NeroVision Express with the mpeg plugin. It'll import AVIs, transcode them, and burn them onto a DVD that'll play on your PS2. I do it all the time with silly little internet clips for my sister.
If you're doing this with a Divx film you got off a P2P network you probably won't be happy with the results. The Divx codec actually does a lot to clean up the quality as you're watching it. When transcoded to a DVD where that filtering isn't present, they tend to look like garbage.

ps2 will not play ALOT of burned dvds as well you can convert a avi to svcd or vcd but the ps2 will not play them.

PS2 plays every single DVD backup I've ever made. I don't know what you're talking about, either. You are right, however, about the S/VCD incompatability.
If you look hard enough you will find a S/VCD/Divx bootdisk for the PS2, though.

Unfortunately we're already pusing the limits of this forum in regards to copying DVDs. If you want, hit me up via AIM and we'll get down to business.
