There are two motherboard resources listed in the device manager. I removed both and rebooted the system and the BOTH insist on loading themselves. Is this normal? I thought you should have only one of each item listed. And of course I am having other system errors, but I'll deal with one at a time. Your help is appreciated.

The items are precisely the same. The only updates performed (by a local shop...not me) was upgrading from 16MB EDO memory to 48MB. And its been a nightmare ever since. I only recently noticed the two motherboards listed. This computer is your basic HP Pav.7320... preloaded. Nothing fancy, but...it works. sometimes.

you're going to have to be more specific than "motherboard resources". is that what they were listed as in the device manager? and both exactly the same?

Did you recently upgrade your motherboard? The only time I have seen doubles of System Items in Device Manager is when I upgrade motherboards.

The way I fix this is I go into the registry using regedit at the run dialog. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and open the Enum directory. All the items in Device Manager are here. Delete the Bios folder. This will clear the entire System Items in Device Manager. Restart your system, if windows does not find any new hardware, you will have to start add new hardware in control panel. Make sure you have all drivers before doing this.
