Does anyone here know where I can find info on just what a particular flash will do for my BIOS? I know (at least I'm 99% sure) which it is--and have d/l'd it--but wonder if it's even worth the possible risk. Y2K is not much of an issue, really, as it can be set once and be OK, but it'd be nice to have large HD support. I suppose it would be expecting too much, though, to be able to dump the dumb "WinBIOS" gooey interface....

Always keep in mind that flashing your BIOS is ALWAYS a BIG risk. One wrong move and the motherboard is gone. I recommend flashing only when you have to and if you're willing to risk having to buy another board because you wiped them clean.

I pretty much agree. However, I don't see it as much of a big risk as Nathan, as long as you have the correct Bios image and flash utility, and know the proper/recommended flashing proceedure of your MB's Bios.
Having said that, I still agree with Nathan that a Bios does not need flashing unless you specifically need the updated features the newer Bois provides. Otherwise leave it alone.

Hi Bleeding Edge
My name is Frans and I,m a new owner of this famous PC CHIPS m571 board.
My ques. is how can I see what version this is? I suppose it,s an 7.0 vers cause I see this number in the bios line.
I want to flash my bios cause my seagate HD is spinning down every 10 secs.
Do you know where I can find this BIOS -upgrade?
Tks.

Thanks, yes, I do know the risk--why do you think I've been sitting on it all this time? Think I've about talked myself out of it as I would likely still be looking at the same interface anyway, and I bought the Promise controller card for big HD support...I just would kinda like to know what this flash is SUPPOSED to provide! I'm not really even sure it will fix the little Y2K inconsistency that I have. I have the original Intel Triton BIOS upgrade diskette that the tech used when I got this MB, do ya think I could put it back the way it was with that if it blew up in my face?
Thanks for your thoughts.
