My computer keeps shutting off after it is on for only about 2 minutes. It will shut off whether I am in windows, BIOS...anywhere. I though it could be overheating. The fan is still working and the computer is only 8 months old. Could it be the power supply? IF so what does that involve? I bought the computer from Amptech. I can't get a hold of them. Anyone know if they're still in business?

If it's always shutting off completely in 2 minutes, then it may be the power supply, cpu, or the motherboard. Pull all the cards out of the system except for the video and controler card (if it's an older system). Make sure you turn it off first and unplug it before doing this. Then turn it on and see if it stays on for more than two minutes. If it does, then there's a good chance the power supply is going bad. If it still doesn't boot, then we'll go to square two. Repost with more info about your system. The more info the better we can help.

In addition, make sure that you don't have enabled the power saver in the bios settings. You may have this running without even noticing. When you check the computer, check it with the case open. Make sure the fan is working properly in the power supply (put your hand in the back of the computer) or the fan in your cpu. If the cpu fan or power supply is not working properly, the computer may shut down by itself.

Thanks guys. I have a GVC QS440BX motherboard with a PII 300 cpu. There is a 250V ATX power supply. The computer is only 8 months old. I tried starting it up with out the fm tuner, modem, and sound card. It still did not work. Both fans are working. Any more ideas?
