Athlon outperform Xeon III?

Greetings,

Does anyone get a chance to compare the Athlon and the Xeon III with the same CPU clock speed? Based on PC magazine article "The fastest computers ever", 09/21/99 issue, Athlon out perform Xeon in many aspect including FPU, is this true? My only concern is the Athlon suitable and out perform Xeon in 3D modeling software application such as Pro/E, Solidworks, Catia etc. Any insigth thought is greatly appreciated.
