100 Mhz RAM

can a 100 Mhz RAM chip run on a motherboard with bus speed of 66Mhz? A friend of mine is offering me one, but if it does not work I guess I'll just save it until I get my K6-3 this summer. Also, if it will not work, would the chip be damaged if I put it in anyway, even yet, could my motherboard be damaged?
