The Evergreen upgrade is much better plus it can be used on Type 5 CPU sockets which came on older motherboards. Intel only supports Socket 7. You can call Evergreen at (541)757-0934 if you have a name brand sytem and they can tell you if it's compatible. You can also get a refund if your processor doesn't work with your system. Its easy to install and has a benchmarking program to run before and after you upgrade. It will even upgrade your BIOS if need be. The web site www.evertech.com has a comparison chart between their upgrade and Intels. I just saw the 486 upgrade at CompUSA for $109 plus there is a rebate of $20 or $30 dollars. Then take the money you saved by not purchasing the over priced Intel product and upgrade something on your system.

as to the 4Mb PCI graphics accelerator . . .
It depends on what type it is. If it requires bus mastering and/or an IRQ, it may not work. Which card are you thinking of getting?
(Presumably your 486 does have PCI slots? Earlier 486s had only ISA or VESA slots.)

Nothing special, just a Pci card. BestBuy has one for like 50 buck...4 mb accelerator.

yes, but WHICH 4Mb accelerator? Make and model?
What do you suggest. I have no idea..I was just glancing at them. I figured any PCI accelerator would work, as long as it wasn't an AGP card...??????????
If your motherboard will support a P90 and 3.38 volts--socket 7 I would suggest you consider a IDT Winchip 240 the winchip is used in the Evergreen upgrade. You can get the 240 for around 35 to 40 bucks. This is a upgrade processor that when set to 60meg buss and a multiplier of 1.5 you get a multiplier of 4 giving you 240 MHZ.
