evening all.

I was wondering if someone could tell me or recommend a OC setting for a P4 2.4 Northwood, the system is currently OC at 3.1 now and running cool enough, I want to change FSB setting on the processor which means I may have to lower down some to keep it cool. Basically I’m asking if anyone has a setting they use or know about of the top of there head, cooling is not a problem, the case I’m using has plenty of AIRFlow and Vacs. The MB I’m using is an ASUS P4PE chipset 845PE, I have 2X512 sticks DDR400 3200, any info would be appreciated.

you're pretty much maxed out, especially with only pc3200 ram. If you had better ram, you might be able to go higher on the fsb.

you can also try running at a 5/4 divider for your fsb/ram speed, but P4s generally perform better when the fsb and ram speeds are synced. you can benchmark it to see which works better for you.

It depends upon how good your RAM is. ;)

Also your proc. It may BSOD 10MHz higher than where it is now; it may hit 3.6 or more. Are you running an 800 or 533 northwood? If the former, you're out of spec - shame on you :p (j/k)

Northbridge as well. The 845 wasn't really designed with much headroom in mind but as the predecessor to the 865/875, it was the Guinea pig for experimental 200MHz FSB operation. All I can say is when you really start pushing it, check the temps of the northbridge heatsink/(fan). If you run into a brick wall and it's too hot, it may be what's limiting you.

Tell us more about your RAM and proc and we will be able to guide you more effectively.

sorry about that,

see the attachment below for full details, this should be better details for ya. tis true im a little behind on my updating, but hey, thats what happens when you have a morgage :)

my memory is Crucial DDR3200 400 FSB if that helps :t there is only 1 stick of 512 in there at the moment, the other is in the wifes computer, for now ;)

I have the same processor at 3.0 GHz. only thing I cahnged was FSB to 250 . Solid and coll. I got to run at 3.2 Ghz but windows was not stable. I also have PC3200. If you want to go higher I think you need to up the voltage - and that's risky for the CPU. I saw reports of people OC this CPU to 3.6 Ghz with regular Intel cooling and faster RAM.
My MB ie Asus P4C800, and the BIOS doen't have the 5/4 FSB/RAM setting , so I can't try that.
