i am curious what is a good resolution to play games at. The reason i ask is because when you put it to high, example is 1280,when you play the game it is shrunken to fit in middle of screen but only taking up half the size of your screen. Is it okay to readjust the monitor to fit nice or will that ruin the resolution. I currently play all game at 1024x768. Thanks. My system specs are at bottom.

1600x1200 will look best if your computer can handle it. I usually try to get atleast 1280x1024, but it really depends on what your system can handle. Some people prefer high screen resolution with low AA/AF settings, other like to crank up the AA/AF and leave the resolution lower. The best would be to have everything maxed, but you need a pretty good system to have newer games at.

What kind\size monitor do you have? Does it support 1280*1024?

I use 1024x768, the reason being, is because the higher the res. the smaller things get. Ive tried higher resolutions, but have always reverted back to 1024x768.

my monitor is 21 inches eizo flexscan. It is crt. I also noticed when playing at 1280x1024 that everything appears to small. I also didnt notice much of a quality difference. i like 1024x768. I guess it is good enough.
And what i meant before was when i switch to 1280x1024 when the screen flashes and reappears , it looks like the picture shrunk. is it okay to readjust it??

Higher resolution will give you a sharper image, as well as letting you see more overall. Of course it also makes things smaller, so good eyesight is beneficial.

I don't see why not. It's obvious your monitor supports that resolution. Double check your refresh rate. Windows has a bug that kicks your refresh rate to 60Hz when gaming. What kind of video card do you have?

Go to your driver properties and you'll see a choice that says "refresh rate overrides" click on that. Then click on "override refresh rates". Now you'll see a bunch of resolution settings, click default next to the resolution you want to play your games at. Set it at one of the higher resolutions your monitor will support. That should fix your problem. I know when I play games at a lower resolution then my desktop without using the refresh rate fix, it always off centers them. Post back and let us know how it turns out. :t

I dont even remember the last time I played at 800x600. I play all my games at 1280x1024 except for farcry that I run at 1024x768. Maybe when Doom3 comes out I may have to settle for 800x600, but i'm still optimistic that my trusty 9800pro might be able to have the muscle for 1024x768

Yes, it should. Your 9800pro should do the job, even with the details up. 1024x768 is what I like, and I have 20/20 vision. 1280x1026 is ok, but the objects are just to small, especially if you are playing in a FPS tournament, you want to be able to see things better.
