can't you just try reinstalling IE over itself?

huh? it works for me when I click on ie6setup.exe

i guess that's part of the problem you're having with IE.

you can try going to the microsoft download site and search for IE6setup:

Have you tried a restore from a restore point or the XP cd yet? There is a way to reinstall IE from the XP disk. I am not sure of the procedure but perhaps someone else here can help you with that or you can do a search on google for that information.

Did you:

- run Symantec removal tool (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.gaobot.removal.tool.html)? and disabled System Restore before doing it?

- have scvhost.exe (this is not 'svchost') if so, checked and cleaned the registry? (removal tool should remove it tho)

- scan with Spybot - HiJackThis?

And what about the HOSTS file? (C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\)
