Laptop froze on reboot....NEED HELP PLEASE

During a reboot my compaq armada 1560dm froze up..I just hit the power button ...but when I tried to power back up the darn thing is still frozen. Running win98 64 megs of ram 3gig western digital hard drive

Maybe no help, but the cmos battery on mine is going and yesterday after letting it sit for a couple of weeks I went to boot up. It started fine, but before it got very far, I decided that I wanted to trade out the CD for the floppy. I turned it off, swapped out and the thing wouldn't boot again. The power kept tripping off. It wasn't until I plugged the power adapter in that I got it going again. BTW, the battery pack showed almost 3/4 strength.
