I have a single computer with dial-up, but will have DSL once again in 3 months.
Will disabling DHCP Client and DNS Server, allow for any noticable change in browsing or should I leave it. Also, the article specifies Win2000...I have XP

Yes, there will be a signifiacnt DECREASE in browsing performance.

What do you think you use to browse the Internet with? Why DHCP and DNS.......hmmm.

Prushka:

I seriously doubt you have a DNS "server". DNS servers provide name to IP translation. If you disable DHCP, you will have to manually enter a valid IP address, subnet mask, gateway IP and possibly the IP address of a valid DNS server, to retain Internet access. If you enter these correctly, there will be no noticable change in Internet access speed. The valid IP address will have to be a "static"(fixed...never changes) IP address. Usually IPS's charge extra for these.
