Sorry, I know this space isn't specifically for contacting you like this, but I didn't see an e-mail address and your guest book site kept sending a timeout.
Many thanks for relieving all of us of the need to search some of Microsoft's
Knowledge Base. A notoriously difficult task at times.
I thought you may be interested to know of a problem with an IE5 installation that I had that you don't mention. I had a seriously botched attempt when I linked to the IE5 download page and didn't have enough free disk space for the hog.
I didn't see any estimate of how much it would need in advance. (too much beer or too little sleep?) Anyway, it proceeded to check out my system and then said that I didn't have enough disk space. At that point it did say how much I would need. It said I should go "back" and do some housekeeping. I clicked on the appropriate "back" buttons. Then I dumped a bunch of files and moved others around until I had the required space.
It had left a setup window on the desktop to resume with the download and it said that I didn't have the required setup files available and that it would load them if I would restart Windows. I went ahead and rebooted to a blue screen of death. My VFAT files were corrupted. I could boot to Safe Mode, but Windows Explorer was not working. Neither was the "Run" function, nor the Add/Remove Software function in Control Panel.
Then I found myself in IE4 on top of Win95 HELL! Thankfully I was able to uninstall IE4 from Safe Mode and reinstall Win95, then reinstall IE4.
However I now had lost dial-up networking and my Lantastic setup. No amount of properties manipulation would get them back and only importing a saved copy of the registry got me up and going again.
I don't know what the motto of all this is other than make sure you have a generous amount of free disk space BEFORE you even attempt to "upgrade"
to IE5.
Hope this is usefull info.
