Hi,

Just got back recently ( family business) after being gone a month. While I was gone, my stepson called and said the internet and network stopped working. I advised him to reset both the cable modem and the linksys befsr41 router. He did so and still couldn't get any where.

Well, after I got back, I tried to reset the router, as it appeared to be the culprit here. The modem was showing connection, etc. The router however was showing a red light on the Diag. It wouldn't reset and even a manual reset didn't work. I tried to access it from the browser but was unable to. So, I went and bought another router ( newer version of this one) and set it up. Tadaa,, all is well again.

What I'm wondering though, is this a common thing? It was just 2 years old. It's been on surge suppresion all it's life, etc. Anyone else have one fail like that?:(

I have the same router and was having problems big time! Did firmware updates, etc. Was about to bag the router, finally complained to cable co., again!!! They came back, and after some snooping around all morning, they found one of the lines was off kilter.

Now all is well (I hope, well see when I return) and I thought my router was bad, it wasn't. And for a long time they said it was my router. Lesson learned, they don't want to admit any responsibility if you use a router and not directly connecting to your pc.

Perhaps you did have a bad router?

I'm thinking it was the router, as a new one took care of the trouble instantly. I just can't figure out why it died so soon. 2 years seems a little short to me.:(

2 years is way too short, for money well spent!

did you do the full 20 second reset or just the quick reset? If the router is totally locked up, I've had to do a full reset to get it working again.

if that didn't work, then it was probably a faulty router. routers do go bad. it could have been a short or a power surge, but it does happen. sometimes, things just happen and you shouldn't over analyze. I had a dlink and a linksys die on my customers before. :t

Oh dang, you couldn't have upgraded to the most recent firmware 1.45.7, did you? Read the below links for more information. The 1.45.7 firmware has a problem with many users, and of course, Linksys is denying (or hasn't admitted) it all.

Now I'm back to 1.44.2 (non ZoneAlarm firmware).

Yes, I had upgraded to 1.45.7 a couple months ago. Had alot of trouble with needing to reboot the router, etc. Then this with the red lights. I couldn't reset out of it however. Never could access the router again from my browser either. Just locked up and stayed that way. Wonder if it was that stinking upgrade afterall??

I've had the old one unplugged a while, wonder if it'll work again? Ever??

If I bought a new one because of their upgrade, I'm gonna be so ticked off:mad:

Where did you happen to find the non zone alarm version? I have looked on a few sites, but can't seem to find it. The linksys site only has the one with zone alarm support. Do you know if there are any major differences between the two?

Thanks much.

ok, I think i found it. I am going to try it, I'll let you know.
