I'm running a 1.1 gig AMD t-bird on a Abit KT7A-Raid board. The point of needing RAID in my case is for the extra channels not for the actual RAID. I am looking to upgrade the chip, mobo, and RAM. I'm planning to stick to AMD 2500-2600+ range type chips. I'm not looking for the bleeding edge due the the $$$$ needed. I'm hoping to stay under $300 in total. Any recommendations on the board to get? I can find the chip and RAM, I just need to know what boards are good with RAID on them. By the way its a standard IDE RAID I need, not serial ATA RAID.

If you don't actually RAID your drives and just need the extra channels, get a motherboard with Highpoint RAID - not Promise. Epox used to favor Highpoint. You can always buy a PCI card too - most motherboard lean toward SATA these days.

I'm using an Epox 8KRA2+ which fits the bill. It works well too. Hard to find though...
