I'll be playing a game, and all the sudden it goes black for half a second and the desktop appears. It seams to happen while more demanding things are happening on the screen. That would lead me to belive it was graphics card related (diamond g460). I've had this problem with Half-Life, Grim Fandango...even ATF. Interestingly, it doesn't happen with Need for Speed 3.

I've searched for awnsers...the diamond site told me to change bios settings...that's all been done. All my drivers are the latest. If anyone could help, that would be just great!

Oh, the system did work fine at one point.

Are you patching all your games?
Get the patches here: http://www.avault.com/pcrl/index.asp?page=patches

Are you using the latest WHQL drivers for the II-G460? Have you updated the 460's Bios?
Get them here:
http://www.diamondmm.com/products/drivers/stealth2-g460.html

Are the sound card drivers updated also?

Have you installed DirectX 6.1?

What about the game controller drives (if your using one.)

If your card supports 3D hardware functions, check DirectX's Setup icon in Program Files/ DirectX folder and check the box there to use.

All the games have the latest patches. I've tryed both the WHQL drivers, and bois...as well as the release candidates...and combination of them. I've got the latest drivers for my sound card. The 3d hardwear functions are supported and enabled. I got DirectX 6.1. Havn't checked for new joystick
drivers.

I am very confused. I have no idea what the problem could be.

did you try defragging your hard disk. chaos gate used to do that to me if i let it get even 5% fragmented.

Make sure your system is not overheating..

Sounds like overheating of sorts.
Try leaving the case of your PC open,
it can help reduce the ambient temperature
by some 15 degrees.

You can try adding a fan on your video card
and see whether that helps.

I don't think that's what it is. I have a home made case cover that has two fans sucking air right around the cpu. My motherboard temp. reads constantly below 75. However, I've taken the cpu down from 360 to 309, and it seams fine now...so maybe heat was the culprit.

more likely the o'cing itself was doing it.

there are so many things it could be but you say you've o/c and coming down in speed helps, this could possibly point to you needing to up the voltage by .1 or .2. since i dont know where you started from and if you have already upped the volts i can only surmise. also have you tried re installung the o/s system

I'm at the stock 2.8 volts. I really wish I had and abit motherboard so I could increase it without sodering anything. I'm surprised asus doesn't have anything like softmenu.

I did re-install the os, it didn't help. But thank you.

did you install these games before or after the o'c?A good thing to do is to set the system to default and install the games and make sure they are stable. Then, you can attempt your overclock. Also, what is your ram setting? Is it cas2?If it is, try setting it to 3 and see if this helps with the crashbacks.had a friend whose system did the exact same thing, turned out to be his ram.It couldn't take a cas 2 setting when overclocked.

no I think the cpu wasn't getting enough juice to make it stable.
