i installed a 3com officeconnect wireless 11g pci card in an old (6+ years) compaq pc. the video card is an ati radeon (rage theatre chipset). when the nic is installed, i get no video signal. video is fine when i take the nic out. anybody have any ideas about how to get around this conflict. i'm willing to buy a different video card if that's the answer but i'm reluctant until i'm sure that that will solve the problem. thanks.

Probably an IRQ or address issue. Not a problem for this forum but since you've already posted, what OS are you running?

don't touch anything. the motherboard should be able to autodetect the card.

hi, i'm running w98. i tried changing a couple of memory range settings to no avail, although i must say that i was limited with respect to what i could change. even with the changes, video still works fine but not when the nic is in. i tried switching to the vanilla video driver too. these compaqs are a nightmare. it's not even apparent how to get into the bios from post. i tried everything i know. (sadly i resorted to trying every key at startup). i reckon i'm gonna try a different video card. you got any other ideas?

it's a strange arrangement in this pc. it was built in Singapore. there are 3 pci lots located between two, er, **** i can't remember what these other slots are called but they are older than pci. there is no agp slot in this machine. i tried the video card in all the pci slots but there is no way to separate the video and nic with something else, like for example the parallel port card. i put the video card on both ends and the middle to no avail. i can't get into the bios to change the video before windows starts up. i hate compaqs.

With Compaq Pcs, while the compaq logo is still displayed, you'll see a small cursor flashing at the top right corner of the screen. Press F10 while its flashing ans you will then be taken to the bios.

Compaqs are just bleaugh
In fact, most brand name PCs are. HP, IBM, Dell, Gateway etc etc
