Setup:
1 Windows 2000 Advanced Server
1 Netgear firewall
1 wireless router (used as wireless AP - router was cheaper than actual AP)
1 AT&T DSL router
1 24 port switch
10 workstations

Server set up with two NIC Cards, one NIC for private Lan and the other NIC for Internet Access. The Public NIC has the IP settings for the firewall box and the firewall has the ISP IP settings. The Server is also set up with NAT for the public NIC.

The AT&T DSL router is connected to the Internet port on the FireWall Box, the server connects to one of the firewall free ports and the Wireless AP is connected to another firewall port and another cable goes from the firewall to the switch.

All works fine and everyone gets internet. The problem is at least one time a day we get disconnected from the internet. I then have to unplug the firewall box for a few seconds and plug back in and the connection is reestablished.

Should I set this up in a more efficient way or is my current setup ok? Any ideas on why I keep losing internet connection?

I have to replug my Linksys router a few times a day. It's old and tired - maybe overheating. I suspect that one of your boxes is too.

Never thought of that. I will place a small fan on the router and see if that makes a difference.

Perhaps you should get a slightly better router for a business enviroment.

we are a small office 8 employees. If the fan does not fix the problem then maybe I will consider getting a better business router. I will wait and see.

I was having similar problems w/ the linksys router connected to my server when it was 'young'. occasionally I had to unplug and reset the router to get communication flowing again. Not sure what fixed it, but haven't had to touch the router for 6+ months now.

so, if teh problems are consistent may be time to replace. mine is a wireless access point router, has 4 ports and wireless built into one, makes managing eaiser. you could use the uplink port to connect to your existing switch. the WAProuter was less than $100.
