Ok I remember awhile back ago someone posted something similar and someone responded to it giveing directions to intall one properly. I have the same question. My system is :
366 OC to 567, 256megs of cas2 pc100 ram, Abit bx6R2, mx300 sound card, 6 gig HD (not sure of brand), toshiba 32x cd-rom, and a memorex E-IDE CD-recorder 2x6(cr-622).
Should it be set up as IDE slave or master? And would that be off the cd-rom or the hard drive?
Would be happy with any help.
Thanks
walter

I'm running essentially the same system. You should always set up the cd-r or cdrw as a master on an ide channel. They don't like running as slaves(why?...no one seems to know). Move your Toshiba to run as slave to the HD on the primary ide controller, and set the Memorex as master and run it off the secondary controller. They only difference with my system is that I am also running an internal ide Zip drive set as slave to the Memorex on the secondary controller.
Good Luck,
Paul

Hey thanks for the info on the setup. I did like you said.
Now the problem is I can't get the CDR progrom to see the cdrom drive or the CDR drive. I can go in to the control panel, under system and it shows them both but just as regular cd rom drives. Windows explorer shows both drives and I can run cd's off both. But the NTI CDR software wont see any drives.
Any special way to get them to work?
Oh and I am running win98SE.
Thanks

The first listing under the Device Manager should be "CDROM". Click on the plus sign and you should see both listed. One of them will be listed as "Memorex CRW-1622". Check the "Settings Tab to make sure that both have been assigned drive letters. I would uninstall the NTI software and then re-install it making sure that when it asks, you assign it the correct drive letter of the Memorex. If this still doesn't work, I would remove the Toshiba cdrom from Device Manager, then shut down, disconnect the ide cable and power supply connector from the Toshiba and recheck all jumpers for master/slave settings. Re-boot the system and then see if the Memorex is recognized in the Devise Manager and Control Panel. Re-install the NTI software following the procedure stated in the NTI installation guide. If everything now works ok, you can shut down and re-connect and install the toshiba.
Good Luck,
Paul
