New system CyrixPR300, Jetway J-530BF Mobo, 64Mb PC100 SDRAM & Win 95 4.3GbHDD
Loaded Win up to point of reboot. Then cannot find HIMEM.SYS in Win directory, but it is there!! Will load from F8 step-by-step to safe mode but not normally. Have tried using older version of file - same.
Running bus @66mhz will this affect PC100 SDRAM? Seems to be incompatibility somewhere, but what?
Anyone out there help please? Any assistance appreciated. Thanks

Are you running Norton Antivirus? If so, I've had the exact problem and after spending a couple hours on tech support, got the fix. Get back to me.

running a cyrix 300 your fsb/clock should be 75/3 running at anything else will mess up system regestry thats even if it boots or gets through the post if you can get it to boot to com prmt type sysreg and the prog will run and fix any probs you must remember that cyrix bull**** about their chips
300=3x75 =225mhz
333=3x83 or 2.5x100 =250mhz
and so on
hope this helps

Thanks Alan,
On chip it says Cyrix Mii 300GP
"66 Bus 3.5 X & 2.9V" core.
Have tried this & reports 300 processor!

Still no luck!
Any one else like a guess?

kagey35, I'm having just the exact problem: using PC100 SDRAM at 66mhz, can't run NORMAL BOOT (Safe Mode is ok)...It's fine when I use old 66mhz memory. It's definitely the memory compatibility problem! I'll try my Celeron at 450mhz with the PC100 RAM when I get my heatsink.

Yes, the Cyrix 300 is really 66mhz with a 3.5 multiplier which makes a 231 mhz processor. Something different will overclock that chip. It could be disastrous in a chip that should not be overclocked. Good luck!

kagey35, I think I know what the problem is. I just fixed mine. If your memory has ECC (Error Checking and Correcting), go to Bios and DISABLE it. That ECC in PC100 SDRAM won't work fine at 66mhz. An ECC ram module has 9 chips on each side...18 in total. Let me know if it works http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
