Perodically (once an hour for about minute???) my CPU goes to 100% useage for no apparent reason even when I'm not doing anything that is CPU intensive.

I'm running Nuts&Bolts, Safe&Sound, McAffee VirusScan, Luckman's Anonymous Cookie, and CPUIdle in the background.

Short of turning these utilities off one by one and seeing if the problem persists, is there another way to troubleshoot the cause?

Cpuidle, Rain, Waterfall, and all the other software coolers, issues HLT commands to the CPU to put it in a suspend state when it's idling. Windows system monitor will misread this mode as 100% usage when it's not. It's cosmetic, nothing to worry about. You can read about it in the documentation that should have came with Cpuidle.

Thanks for the response, BC. When the CPU shows 100% useage(0% idle) the performance bogs down so I suspect there's more to it. When I reboot or wait a minute or so, the problem goes away.

By the way, I'm running mother board montior too.
