Every time a specific w2k pc starts Windows file Protection gives the error:

The CD you provided is the wrong C.
Please insert the windows 2000 professional CD into your CD-ROM drive.

The only button is OK
If I put in the CD all is well until next time it reboots.

If I don’t I get the message :

Files that are required to run Windows properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original version of these files.
Insert your Windows 2000 Professional CD now.

If I insert the CD or not, next time I boot I get the same messages.

Any suggestions??

run a repair install of win2k. boot from the cd and continue like you would for a new install. the system will scan the drive, then ask if you want to repair a current installation.

Boot the computer. Once it's reached the desktop (whatever it takes to get there), Click on Start, choose Run, and type:

sfc /scannow

at the prompt. Once it askes for the CD, pop it in. It should replace corrupted system files with fresh originals from the CD.

If this does not fix it, then boot from the CD and do a quick repair.
