I have keep getting RUNDLL32.EXE file is missing or corrupted restore from disk, on start up. This has happened three times, each time I've restored it from the Win98 disk. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Larry

Have we done this before?

How are you restoring the file and do you recall what was being done before the first message.

I used the system file checker, and I can't remember what I might of been doing before it happened.

It might be easier to help if you could be more specific to as when this occurs. Does this happen when Windows loads (everytime?) or does the message come up when an certain application starts (what is the App.?) or does it occur with all apps. or does it just pop up? Is the message in the catagory of PageFaults?

Whatever it is, if you are using System File Checker the file should be okay to use.
So I guess the next question is (sorry for all the Q's) Is Rundll32.exe being replaced to the proper folder, this would be: C:\Windows. Have you tried renaming then replacing or removing the corrupt file beforehand?

Now if you are doing all this, it sounds as though the Registery has become corrupted.

It happens just as I'm getting to my desktop on start up, it's happend three times. No it's not an invalid page fault, and no I didn't try to rename it before replacing it, and it is giong into my windows directory. I looked in the system configuration utility under the start up tab and tweak ui and load power profile uses it, if that helps. I also saw there are two of each listed there which I thought was strange. I took the check marks out of the boxes, maybe that'll help.

Thanks, Larry

I just fixed a system doing the same thing....it had a trojan program deleting it...check with a VERY up to date virus scan.

If it is not a virus.. check your display adapter, it might be corrupt or it may be wrong...also if it is the correct display.. try to use 800 by 600 with 256 colors.. instead of using.. millions..

I renamed the file and installed a new one, and I haven't had a problem so far.
