Inyel P4 3.0C
ASUS P4P800
512MB or 1 GB of Crucial RAM for no OCing, or Corsair/Geil for OCing
120GB Maxtor
9800 Pro or if oyu have the cash a X800 Pro
Antec Sonata case
you are good to go
But for Gaming I would go AMD 64

Forget the 9800XT. You can get a X800-Pro at Best Buy for $399 right now which is the same price as a 9800XT.
If you go A64, don't waist your money on a FX-53 or FX-51. Get the 3400 or the 3200. Half as much money for 5% less performance.
It looks like the VIA chipset is the best one out right at this moment for the A64.
Oh yeah, lay off the gaming a little and spend more time on your grammar and punctuation homework.....j/k.

-Corsair XMS3200 - 512MB Ram (maybe 1GB if i have the cash)
Should be great for gaming and once its Oc'ed..LOOK OUT.

hehe...just kiddin' ya....thats what the j/k was for:)
Keep in mind when deciding what to go with, check some reviews and some benchmarks. Spending a lot more money for something that is only marginally faster could be saved for things like more RAM, better video card, etc. This is especially true with CPU's. That fastest CPUs carry a premium for the little increase in performance they come with.
Stick with a P4 3.0ghz or AMD A64 3200. For even a more budget conscious choice, one could go with a Socket A Athlon XP Mobile 2600 and overclock it to 3400 speeds or more if your lucky.
Good Luck.

For a gaming system, you'll want at least 512 MB of PC 3200 (DDR 400) or better and a quality name brand PSU such as Antec or Enermax. 12 volt rail is particularly important on modern systems with power hungry graphics cards.
Ditto on the 9800 XT: Forget it! The next generation ATI X800 (RV 420) is retailing for $399. Don't know what nVidia's 6800 is fetching...
If you're going Intel, stick with the 800 MHz (200 MHz quad) bus speed. Next generation Intel chipsets will have PCI Express and NO AGP slot, which will force end users to the new format. Check http://www.anandtech.com for info on specs and release dates.

I agrew with Met-AL, definatly don't get the 9800XT.... It costs twice as much as the Pro and is only bearly faster... If you've got the money for a 9800XT, go for a X800 Pro which will give you a LOT more performance for the same amount of $$$

yo m8 u want to get a pc for gaming right...ok athlons are better for gaming than p4 pluss they r cheaper and go for a geforce graphix card not ati radeons as they have had driver problems since i can remember so under neath is the spec i recomend u get for your gaming pc and trust me it will b the best spec for gamin and in mid price range i know because i work in a pc shop selling and fitting computer components etc
3.2 athlon xp=£120
512mb ddr 400 ram=£69
128 mb fx 5600=£100
asus a7n8xe-deluxe mobo=£120
120 gig 7200rpm hdd=£70-£90
400watt case
thats a farely cheap system that is more than capable of running all the modern games out and some more to come also its easy to upgrade as therese an extra 2 slots for ddr memory and if u got the case u culd get the fx5900 ultra 256 mb or the fx 6800 ultra either way yr pc will have awesome spec for low price and wuld run every game goin and even some of the newer ones that are soon to come out

lol where have you been this past year, the Radeon 9xxx series have been far superior compared to the Nvidia 5xxx series. The NEW Nvidia 6800 is even losing somewhat to the ATi X800
