This problem just pop up of nowhere. The floppy drive A: is always accessed just before the Win95 goes to the 'It is now safe to shut down' screen whenever I clicked on Start/Shut down../shut down the computer.
Any remedy please? Thanks.

Hi,
I had similar experiences with Win95/98 searching the floppy prior to shut down. Here are some of the items I discovered, which may or may not help in your case:
1. If you have MS Office, get rid of Find Fast and Office Startup (not Shortcut Bar).
2. If you formatted your HD using a bootable floppy drive, the OS may have used the floppy's autoexec or config files instead of the HD's. This one's really weird. A friend's computer had this problem and the only reason I found out was because I was using SYSEDIT and tried to save the autoexec and config. When it tried to write, it was accessing the A: Drive!
3. If you have Windows Explorer or Control Panel open during shut down, it sometimes accesses the floppy. I still have this problem with Control Panel. Whenever I open this up, it accesses both the floppy and the CDRom. Go figure http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif.
Anyways, hope I added some value to your trouble shooting.

If you are running MACAFEE virus scan, go into properties, and uncheck the "scan floppy drives on shutdown" box.

Norton does the same thing. Turn off the "scan a:\ during shut down" option.
