Hi All,

Just wanted a second opinion. I recently had trouble with my computer. I am using an ATX powersupply. Recently, when I try to shut down in WIN95, the computer does not shut off on it's own. In fact, I get the "It's safe to turn off your computer message" when it never did that in the first place.

I've checked the BIOS settings and also the Power Icon in Control Panel.

I noticed that before this happened, when it did shut down, the PS fan was still running. Do you think it's a power supply problem or the motherboard?

Thanks,
Eric///

try going to device mgr, system devices, and look for apmc(advanced power management controller)go to properties and then settings and make sure it is activated.

you need to check the box in the advanced tab of the power icon from the control panel to allow windows to manage power.

don't know about the ps fan still running afterwards, though. did it just run for a little while, or did you have to totally cut power for it to stop?

The fan stops only when I cut the power completely (ie. turn the main switch off or unplug the cord).

I did try the Advance Power Tab and it's so funny that I have to disable certain advanced features to get it to temporarily work. However, I never needed to do that in the first place.

the fan not cutting out sounds really suspicious to me. if you can get a cheap (around $35) power supply, i would change it. you'll still have the original as an emergency backup if anything happens in the future.

i would suspect the mb of not being fully ACPI compliant, but it seems like it was working earlier.

Thanks for all your input! In any event, it looks like I'm about to spend some more on this thing. I currently have a Pentium 233MMX and it looks like a good time to upgrade... Oh darn, my computer's busted http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
