100 situps with 10-20 lbs on your chest for around 6 months to a year.
Combine that with a good sport like rock climbing (which heavily relies on core strength) and ya got yerself healthy well being. Oh yeah and dont drink so much soda's. Water is better.

Walk to your local shop. Sorry, couldn't resist :D As well as having the muscles there in the first place, you need lowish body fat percentage too - < ~10% so the definition shows. Exercise lower abs first, then upper. Lie on the floor and keeping your legs as straight as possible, raise them slowly toward the ceiling and lower them again, keeping it slow. Make sure your lower back stays flat on the floor by squeezing your stomach muscles tight throughout the exercise. That followed by good old-fashioned situps should do the job.

I prefer crunches to sit-ups becauase of less stress on the lower back muscles and lower vertabrae. I've gotten into the habit of not counting anymore. I'll do a set until I literally can't do them anymore. Rest for a minute. Do the same. Rinse and repeat several times.
There are a number of variations of sit-ups/crunches that work certain areas/muscle groups more than others. You'll probably find some info through a google search. I like to change it up in a routine because its more efficient and isn't so repetitive by moving in one axis over and over again.

It's a balance between building your ab muscles and bodyfat %.
Incline situps, crunches, and oblique crunches--done SLOWLY so you feel the burn and with added weights when a 12-rep set is too easy for ya--are great exercises.
For your abs to start showing through, you're probably going to have to get down to about 9% for males. Around 7-8% is where you'll have an awesome 6-pack!
Good luck man! It's elusive for a lot of people--probably because it takes hard work to get and maintain.

i find the easiest way is to get in your car, drive to the nearest atm, get some cash, then drop by the liquor store on the way home.

Getting abs is all about diet..... Period. You can lift & do crunches all you want but if you eat garbage you will never have abs.....unless you have great genetics & a super fast metabolism.
You need to expend more calories than you take in. It's really that simple. All the latest diets like Atkins & South Beach make me laugh.
You need to eat 5 - 6 small meals a day, lift weights (full body workout if beginner) M W F, & do 30-45 min cardio T, TH SAT.
5-6 small meals will stoke your metabolism all day so it will keep burning calories. Most people eat 2 huge meals per day at lunch & dinner & this is the perfect recipe for storing fat.
make sure you eat breakfast early as it is the most impt. meal since you want to fire up the metabolism right away. You should also make it the largest meal of the day.
Weights will build muscle (duh :D ) & the more muscle one has the more fat they will burn throughout the day.
drink 8-10 glasses of water, limit your carbs (nothing crazy, again intake outtake) consider a whey protein shake twice per day & stop drinking soda & juice.
I'm sure i forgot a ton but I'm tired :)
Oh....your workout should be no more than 45-60 min. anything more is counterproductive IMO.....hit the gym, lift hard, & get out

Yea, alot of those weight loss/muscle building add's are garbage. If you allready had a 6 pack, then losing weight will pretty much bring it back with some cardio (some diets do help, but most are just scams or bad for you). If youve never had one then you need to throw some weights into your workout.
The Adkins diet does work b/c I have done it. Just dont do it very long (2 weeks tops) b/c your body needs carb's esp. when you are working out.
