When I try to unpack a selfextracting file, there's an error message saying that there might not be enough memory available in the TEMP directory, though there's a lot of space. What`s the reason?

I have seen many times that people try to unzip certain files which are burned to a cd, and then the file cant write any temp information to the cd (its not smart enuf to copy to the HD instead) and then crashes. If this is the case, simply move the whole self extracting file to the desktop or something, and run it. Are you on a network or some NT machine which might prohibit write access to the temp drive? One last silly thing i have seen (matrox drivers tend to do this), is that they ask you to specify a directory to put the files in, and then it defaults to C:\temp. But if you try to extract to C:\temp, it doesnt work. In this case, change the default to something like c:\temp2. If these dont apply, i dunno... aam Bigdan 04-06-1999, 10:50 AM Sarita, Does the program you are trying to extract originally come off a CD? I had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago while doing a reformat/reinstall on a friends system. It took me about three weeks to work out the problem after altering msdos.sys, autoexec.bat, cache sizes etc.. The CD-ROM drive was old and had a weak laser as well as a dirty lens and it was corrupting the files as it was reading them (not getting all the information). This happened with all the programs I was trying to install (like netscape, acrobat reader) even Win 98 was stopping during setup due to a corrupt .CAB file. I swapped the CD-ROM drive in her computer for my reasonably new one and everything worked first time no problems. Hope this helps. Bigdan SysOpt.com
