How can I tell if dma33 is working and were can I see the transfer rate at? I have Win98, Quantum Fireball EX 12.7GB also Abit BX6 Rev 2. I went into system properties and opened Intel 82371AB/eb PCI Bus Master IDE Controller and under settings Dual IDE Channel Settings I set it to Both IDE Channels enabled. Then I went to system properties, Disk Drives, GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE47, Settings and checked the DMA box. Is This correct?
Thanks GGUICE

Sounds like you have it correct. Go back and see if the DMA box is still checked indicating that it is enabled.
My Win98 channel settings were set to "default" and I couldn't enable DMA. I used the SiSoft SANDRA utility to benchmark my HD before and after. It sure seems to make a huge difference.
Personally, I found Win98 lack of reference to UDMA/33 a little frustrating...
you can also see when your computer first posts (if you're quick) and it shows at what mode each hd is recognized as. at least on a award bios mb.
if you have norton utilities, it also has a crude benchmark in system info. just make sure you use the physical hd benchmark instead of the logical one (which seems to have no correlation to reality).
