I was having troubles getting Command and Conquer generals to run, and EA tech supportwasn't being extremely useful. I therefore loaded loads of updated device drivers and DX 9.0b. To cut a long story short, after an auful lot of fiddling with drivers of various ages and revisions, I finally hit upon a winning formula.
My trouble is now that the D3D tests in DXDiag always quit just after they switch video modes, saying that the user cancelled the tests. This is annoying as I blatantly havn't, and one of the issues with running C&C:G was the video card switching modes (although no other software that does switch ever had a problem).
The upshot is that everything seems ot work fine now except the D3D tests. My worry is that I buy new software and it needs driver version X, and C&C:G needs driver version Y and I get really annoyed with it.
By the way, system is a GA7-N400Pro2 mobo, Barton 2500+, Sparkle SP8831DT (Geforce FX5600XT chipset), 1024mb ram (2 x 512mb DDR400 dual-channelled), XP Pro.
