Until just a few minutes ago I had sound. I decided to reboot, and suddenly I don't have any sound at all... I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and still no sound... does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
I'm using win98, with some kind of Aztec Labs PnP soundcard.
Windows shows no conflicts at all... the only thing I'm suspicious is the two "Reserverad enhet" (swedish for "reserved drive") that show...
I'd appreciate any help I can get!

You may think I am crazy but check for a virus on your system, this can make your drives disapear kill sound or whatever...
FYI
www.microsoft.com has faq's on this particular issue.

I run Dr Salomon and Norton Antivirus at the same time, and none of them has noticed any viruses. However, I'm scanning my system right not... Dr Salomon didn't find anything, so now I'll scan with Norton.

Delete the s-card drivers again, and make sure you delete any s-card ".ini" files. Delete your sound card from within control panel. Then reboot your system and let the sound card reinstall.
This may or may not work but you shouldn't be any worse off than you are now...

just a daft idea, but are you showing the little speaker on the taskbar? if not remove card in device manager and let windows find it, or show it the way, or reload the drivers. if it is there check to see if any of the sliders are at zero particularly, wave/volume. this is often the problem
follow nimrod's suggestion sometimes the sliders will drop to zero all on their own.happened to me before.when uninstalling the sound card do it in safe mode.remove all drivers, hardware and software related to sound card, reboot and let windows redetect.this is the best way to remove all drivers from your system.some drivers wont uninstall in normal mode because they r loaded.booting in safe mode gets around that.

It's not there, and I've already done what you suggested... at least five times.... it still won't work.... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
You think I need to reinstall Windows?

No. I don't think anyone here will recommend reinstalling windows for this. If it not a virus and it just happened suddenly, check to see if the cable from the sound card to the speakers came loose. Play a audio CD and jiggle the cable around at the sound card end (kind of pull it in and out some, check both ends like this) to see if you get sound.
If that doesn't work, remove the sound card (not just the drivers) form Device Manager then shutdown the system and reseat the sound card in the slot. While the case is open, check the audio cable from the CD-Rom.
Reboot.
If that doesn't work, think about getting that sound card you really want. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
note: check the mute button also. sometimes it's overlooked.

when I try to play an ordinary wav-clip it says (excuse my poor translation from swedish ;o):
"Sound stream cannot be played: there is no hardware for sound available, or hardware is not respondoing"
