I recently put a new clock battery into my compaq presario 2200. when i booted, i get the error "drive b diskette error" with the options f1 to boot and f12 to enter setup. i chose f12 and entered the bios setup information screen. nowhere does it say that i have a b drive installed or operable (i have an a: floppy drive and a d: cd-rom drive). after exiting setup, i can enter windows and function normally but things seem to be randomly seizing. also, i think it may be related to my virus software because after i exit setup and it's running mcafee i get all these diacritic characters on the screen where the 'scanned, infected, etc' text usually is and when i try to remove the virus software the whole thing locks up. any ideas?

I had a problem like that, but my pc was showing 2 "A" drives when i only have one. What I did was go into device manager and selected "disk drives" and deleted ALL of the drives. And do the same for "floppy controllers". After doing that restart your computer and windows will install the devices correctly.
As far as the bios setting with compaq computers, the mobo and bios are set-up for that pc and are not really designed to be flexable like a after market mobo, so there are not many options in the bios that can be changed. That computer is designed to do just what it did when it came out of the box.
