I installed IE 5.0 and started getting error messages on start up. I get Explorer caused invaild page fault in module kernel32.dll at 015f:bff7a3c2 and other times it's in apitrap.dll 015f:00b63473, or I get both. I also have a Diamond Monster Fusion video card and I have installed the new drivers that are supposed to fix the problem with the comctl32.dll file. I've formatted and reinstalled Win98 and I still got the errors. Does anyone have a clue?

boot into safe mode to see if you get that error msg.. if you do not.. get the error... then you are ok.. just run msconfig.exe in safe mode.. and go to the startup tab and uncheck everything.. and restart and see if you still get the error.. if u dont then it is one of ur programs.. most likely the prog that installed the file apitrap.dll (a utility / TSR of some sort).. and then u decide what to do after u pinpoint which program causing ur error..

If in safe mode u get that error.. then do an unconditional format.. and reinstall JUST win98 and see if u get the error if dont.. then just install normally and skip IE 5!!! till it becomes more stable.. and compatible with other progs.

I wouldn't be surprized if the offender was Norton Anti Virus ;(

I didn't install Norton anti virus yet, but I did install CleanSweep Deluxe after I reformatted and I made a list of what I installed and when, And I started to get the errors after I installed CleanSweep. I've turned everything off that runs automatically and went into the system configuration ulitity and took the check mark out of the box for it under the start up tab, maybe this will help. Thanks.

I agree with CMonster I have had nothing but trouble with Norton Antivirus concerning startup and shutdown. Down with Norton!!

I found out that there is a problem with the apitrap.dll when you install CleanSweep. Symantec has a new file to download to fix this problem, and sofar so good.

Thanks, Larry
