I have a couple pc's I want to upgrade to play City of Heroes. Even though everything looked good on the beta. I want to increase the resolution on the retail version. Here's what I have on the first pc. AMD XP1700, Soyo Ultra Platinum KT333, DDR2700 512mb, WinXP pro. PC#2 has AMD XP1600 cpu, Gygabyte GA7VAXP KT400, DDR2700 512mb, WinXP pro. Both have a Geforce4 TI4200 64mb. I'm thinking of buying a Barton CPU stand alone because these mobo's are very reliable and stable. However, if there is a great bundle deal out there. I'll consider replacing them and sell these. Laterz. :t

If there were 1 thing I would upgrade in each, its the video card. Whats your budget?

I would say about $400.00 tops. Except I don't understand why the video cards just yet? I got them a little over a year ago. They function superb! I don't have slow-down or loss of frames. I'm not going to Play DoomIII or Half Life2 in the forseeable future. Just primarily City of Heroes and Unreal Tournament classic from time to time. I was considering of changing them next year possibly to Nvidia's 6800 video card or a clone from MSI or ASUS. I like these G4's TI4200 cards. Heck they beat the GFMX cards hands down and possibly the GF FX 5200 cards too. Next year possibly if I really need them that is. Thanks again. Laterz.:t

Well if you want more video performance, upgrading the video card will give you the most bang for your buck. If your budget is $400 then 2 radeon9800 pro's are what I would buy.

If it runs it fine now, 2 barton 2500+'s would be a good upgrade, less impact on video performance, more impact on the computer speed overall, if you want to hold off on the video card.

Let's clear up a little misconception here.

Geforce 4 Ti 4200 absolutely spanks the Geforce FX 5200, hands down. 'nuff said :t

Hey, I'm a real gamer and I use my 5200 PCI for tons of games with acceptable frame rates. :D

I have to agree with Vampiel here. Unless those are older games, you're not playing very well on a FX 5200 PCI card. The FX 5200 is an entry level card ment for mainstream users, and the PCI aspect makes it even slower. Sorry man.

I get 40 FPS at 1024x768 at 2xQ AA and no AF in UT2004 (with most things set at High). I also get 1000+ 3dmark 2003. Not bad for a $70 card. :t
