1. where is windows explorer
2. where has msconfig gone?
3. under 98' from start/settings/taskbar/startmenu progs/advanced ...it was easy to move things around, can xp be made to work the same way? (i have it set to clasic mode and it dont look the same)
4. those crappy bits xp puts above the start menu, (windows update, windows catalog, netscape snmartupdate....) it was easy to get rid of these in 98, how do i get rid of them in xp?
thanks guys,

1. This one isn't too hard to find.
start - programs - accessories - windows explorer
you could just right click on my computer and click explore
2. just go to start - run and type msconfig. same as it ever was.
3. and 4. why don't you just right click on the start button and click explore? is that what you mean? mines looks pretty similar to win98, so you just haven't customized it enough. make sure to check the all users folder too.

Also for windows explorer if you have a keyboard with the key that has the little windows logo on it just hold it down and hit the e key and windows explorer opens. A handy shortcut.

3. not sure what you mean exactly, are you just trying to arrange your progs alphabetically?? If so just right click on any prog & click sort by name.
4. the items above the start menu like "set program access & defaults" this is what you mean right? Just right click & delete.
hope this helps.
4. also right click the task bar, select properties and the start menu. Customize the start display?

thanks guys
sjd, i did try all that, but must be too old or blind, i have heard lots of ppl say xp can be made to look just like 98' but whatever clasic mode i set, its just not what id describe as' just jike 98'
intimidator, im ok with arangin them alphabetically, just would like the start menu to be like the one i am used to in 98' even with it set to clasic mode, its still not fully the same.
thanks mobiker, it will help a great deal
Midknyte, im the only one that uses the system, so what id realy like is to get rid of all the other bits that hang around id never use.

even if you are the only user, there are some entries in the all users profile which all users (you being one of them) will get. you need to check that also.

kenjones:
If there is anything that you do want in your start menu i.e. Explorer, just navigate to it,start - programs - accessories - windows explorer; right click it and click on Pin to the Start menu.
