i recently installed messenger 6.1 on my xp system.

problem is not with this version, but the preinstalled ver that came with xp (ver4).

i tried getting rid of it through add/remove programs (windows components), but its still there (in task manager, processes).
everytime i end the process it just loads itself again.

i've disabled all the start up automatically on windows etc in the options section of the program, but to no avail.

any ideas??

one more thing: how do u stop xp from grouping many windows into one tab? i've forgotten how do undo this.

thanks heaps
lfc

In your start menu click run and cut and paste this. RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Just click ok or whatever when the window pops up. As to the other thing you could try TweakUI. It lets you choose how they group, or not at all.

You don't need TweakUI for that, just right click on the taskbar, choose Properties and uncheck "Group similar taskbar buttons", click Apply, OK.

D'oh. Totally slipped my mind. I've never unchecked it, probably why. And I know I've seen it a million times. The smallest things are the most easily overlooked.:t

I posted a VBS script as the easiest way to remove Messenger, then deleted it after reading your post to stop me looking like an idiot :D The funny thing is, the way you suggested is how I did it on my machine!

Yeah, I saw that for a brief moment. Had to edit my post, forgot about the second question.
