my computer is running at

ASUS P4PE (onboard LAN & SOUND)
Celeron 1.8Gig
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model64 PCI 16Meg (NOT AGP)
256 RAM
Maxtor 60Gig 7200rpm
SEAGATE 2.1Gig
Liteon 52x32x52
Standard Floppy

Due to licencing issue, i decided to install Win95 on it. the installation went successful.
But during its first boot, the error:

"While initializing IOS: Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer"

restart it in SAFE MODE, same error occur. i have no way to work around it.

i have searched the internet, almost all microsoft knowledge base area, no helpful information about Win95 installed at P4 based machine.

is there a way to install Win95 in a P4 based machine?
i have tried both win95b and win95c, both the same.

i have also tried to install win95 at another machine:
INTEL D810GB with P4-1.4Gig
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model64 AGP 32Meg
Standard Floppy
Seagate 10Gig 5400rpm
52x CD-rom

the same error.

any advice is highly appreciated, thank you.

Those cpus are faster than what win95 was designed to handle. You can try this patch:

Your first attempt should have gone on the 2.1,dunno, to get as close to old as you can plus I'd probably skip installing mobo drivers which would be a bit too far ahead of its time, the patch though sounds like the key to it all.

The patch is perfect, the error is 100% eliminated. "Die hard" windows 95 can handle P4.
USB support for Windows 95 needs to be updated.
If your original windows 95 CD (version C) labelled "with USB support", find the USB update in "CD-ROM:\other\updates\usb"
do read the "usb.txt", they are 2 updates needed.

the next difficulty i facing is that USB devices manufacturers typically do not provide drivers for windows 95, even branded one. That includes DELL memory key (USB drive), & Aztech UM9100 USB 56k modem that i am using. that is no good, they do not consider backward compatible issue suffuciently.

bottom line is most vendors did not develop USB drivers for win95. Minimum for most USB flash drives is Win98se. win98fe isn't good enough.

dude, spend the $$ and get an OEM version of XP. No one should have to run win95 anymore, unless you have some legacy application or something.

in fact i am setting up my new office, we are now getting 2 computer, plan to get another 2 computer soon, and another 2 probably. licencing cost is way too high, out of budget. look, other than operating system, we also need to buy office suite, and ......

since most of us having extra win95 licence from home, we just have to stick with it if that works.

I don't know....if faced with having to use 95 or 98 I'd use 95 anyday.

Either way, the OS would be patched to death.
