Check out the site below for that error message. It's listed under the following category;

Bleeding Edge,
The last two times it's been "Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module APITRAP.DDL or Kernel 3L.DLL. Almost all the time it's related to Explorer but it's been crashing in IE also.

This was the last thing I wanted to do but it looks like I better remove the 128 DIMMs and see if it's the cause. What do you think.

Try typing: msconfig
from Start/Run.
Click OK.
Click on the Startup tab.

Make a note of everything that is checked and uncheck it all. Let it restart.

Do the errors occur?

Also, if Win98 is started in safe mode, do you get these errors?

These faults your getting are usually caused by programs. Because it happens when you start Win98 I'm guessing it's one of the programs being loaded. I kinda suspect Norton.

With EI, read what is over here:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q187/9/65.asp

Memory rarely goes bad. If it is, it's no good from the very start. Are your Dimms in bank 0?

Nathan,
Nice links!

Nathen,
I've done both of those things you mentioned and YES I still get errors. I've had problems ever since I installed the DIMMs but because I had unlodged my video card, I thought these problems were not mem. related. I pulled out my DIMMs about an hour ago and machine is just yumming fine. I'll let you know after a few more hours of running if we've eradicated this problem.

Thanks for all your help.

I have also recieved a APITRAP.DLL
error.
After I installed Ie5
Properties of the APITRAP.DLL says its
CleanSweep.
I recieve this error about every 3 boots.
I had the Internet Monitor on during install.
But I do not Know if this had anything to do
with this.
I'm going to reinstall IE5 latest.
And if that not better remove and reinstall
CleanSweep.

Thanks B.E. I was trying to make it easier for users to get help. I've got to add some links for printing problems.

Try these also. They are at Start/run!

SFC

Let us know.

I had this problem on all three of my computers.

The solution was to go to System Configuration Utility/Startup.

Disable all Clean Sweep items. It will then put Clean Sweep under Disabled Startup Items on your Program Menu.

When you need to have Clean Sweep monitor your installation, simply go there and click on it.

Clean Sweep icons will then drop down to your System Tray. Double click on the icon and let Clean Sweep monitor the installation.

When you reboot, the icons are gone and your computer should boot normally.

If this doesn't work for you, I'd be very surprised.

Nothing has worked. The problem I'm having is that I'll start my computer and get "explorer error" and then without doing anyting, restart it and it starts up fine. Then after a 3rd restart, the same errors occure. I've done what MS suggest to fix the problem but it still occurs. I've disabled all Norton programs and have disabled everyting else on startup one at a time without success. I even have the new mem out but that didn't help.

What's next????

Thanks for everyone's time.

Sounds like it's reformat time. Don't forget to back up your important files.

I went in to safe-mode and renamed
APITRAP.dll
to
oldAPITRAP.dll
Have not seen a diference in CleanSweep
Yet.
So far no error of the Explorer Yet.

do a search on your harddrive for the file APITRAP.dll and see what program that is associated with by right clicking on apitrap.dll and going properties.. once you know what program that is trying to load.. during bootup.. it is up to u to decide on what to do with that particular prog that is crapping out ur system.

Ok now on every other boot. I get a Explorer error. i.e. Explore caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0177:bff7a3b9. It's always in module KERNEL32.DLL.

Have you tried to replace that file yet?

That's exactly what I did! So far so good (but I've said that before to kick me in the ***) I've restarted my machine 6x in a row without a hitch. I hope that did it.

Also, with my memory issue, I found out that my motherboard will only except SIMMs or DIMMs but not both (that mem at added was DIMMs but I already had 64MB of SIMMs).

Thnaks again,
Tom T
