Sound - or should I say No sound.

I have a Packard Bell about three years old and last time I went to use it there was no sound. Everyone in the family swears that the never reset or changed anything regarding sound although my kids used it last. The speakers are ok. Did my sound card just 'go out'?

first, have you got a little speaker showing on the bottom right of your task bar? (some sound cards change this icon to a control ) double click on this and see if the volume control has been turned down, if not either double click on it or go to advanced and check the other sliders ie wave etc and make sure that they are not turned down. its quite "normal" for these slider volume controls to move as if by magic.let me know if this works if not we need to go deeper.if you have nothing showing on the task bar then you may need to try re loading the drivers. i know this is basic but i dont know your knowledge base
