Every review of Far Cry talks about how it takes a real monster of a system to run it. Well, I have an Athlon 1.4Ghz, but as a big FPS fan, I didn't want to miss out, so I crossed my fingers and bought the game. My verdict: it's very playable! My system specs: Win XP, 266Mhz fsb, NVidia FX5700 ultra, 512Mb PC2100 ram. I let the game auto-select the detail level, and it came up with "medium" using 1024x768 resolution. The only time I get a (slightly) noticable slowdown is on the open water (lots of reflections) and interior levels when I use the flashlight (lots of shadows/reflections to calculate, I guess.) Otherwise, it's very smooth. I think the graphics are darn good, though I don't dare try AA/AF. One thing that's missing is the birds and other wildlife in the jungle, but that's a small price to pay and it doesn't affect gameplay at all.

I'm about halfway through the game and I don't regret buying it at ll.

Hey! I used a GeForce 4 MX440 128MB and a stick of 512MB PC333 DDRRAM on my PC. I still could play the demo version of Far Cry. It's like what he said. I couldn't see the birds but I could see fishes and blast spots.

Except that the flashing part when I walked near a building. The flashing will occur wherever I walked near a building surface. Hehehehehehe...

Lag...

Nope... I didn't experience any lag on the water or in the water (swimming). Hehehehehehe...

Specification:

Pentium 2.4B GHz
Intel D845PESV deskboard
512MB Kingston PC333 DDRRAM
40GB Hitachi harddrive
SoundBlaster Live 'Value'
GeForce 4 MX440 128MB DDR

Yeah, I realize the video card helps a lot, but I was worried about my CPU, since the recommended system is 2 Ghz.
