After about 1 to 1 1/5 minutes audio CDs stop playing. The motherboard maker says to uncheck DMA in Device Manager, but I don't have that box. I've used the manufacturers bus master drives and have enabled UDMA on the IDE disk drive only. Board is an FIC VA-503+ with an AMD K6-2 350mhz. The CD is a Digital Research 40X. Don't believe it's the sound board because it was doing this with an SB AWE64 and am now using a SB PCI Live.

Check again for the DMA check box under
ComtrolPanel/System/DeviceManager.
Double click CD-ROM.
Highlight your cd-rom and click Properties.
Click the Settings Tab.
That's where the DMA box should be.
It's not grayed out, is it?
Uncheck the box.
If it's grayed out, CD audio device driver may be damaged.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, remove and then reinstall the CD audio device driver. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click
Multimedia.
2. On the Devices tab, double-click the Media Control Devices branch to expand it.
3. Click CD Audio Device (Media Control), and then click Properties.
4. Click Remove, and then click Yes when you are prompted to remove the device.
5. Click OK, click OK again, and then restart your computer.
6. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click
Add New Hardware.
7. Click Next, click Next again, click "No, I want to select the hardware from a list," and then click Next.
8. Click Sound, Video, And Game Controllers, and then click Next.
9. In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft (MCI), and then click CD Audio
Device (Media Control) in the Models box.
10. Click Next, click Finish, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

Well, I got it working. I noticed that my bios was discovering the CD each boot and setting mode to auto, I set it to normal & I also reran the motherboard utility to disable UDMA on the CD. As far as the DMA box, it's just not there. I've got Disconnect, Sync Data Transfer, and Auto insert notification on the left. Greyed out on the right is Removable and Init 13 unit. I appreciate the input, though.
