The beep code indicates Video Failure.

I would lean towards trashing the MB. As well received this board is, I see an unusual number of people posting for help who have the BH/BX6, I find this slightly suspect in lieu of the rave reviews.

Am certain many of the avid Overclockers who own these MB's will disagree with me but there are other stable boards that can be push the CPU's to their limits.

You shouldn't have put up with these symtoms where half of the things work half of the time or not at all.

Hardware compatability on a Win98 system should be most nearly nonexistent.

I just dropped a Diamond Velocity 4400 AGP in the box and still got the same problem, albeit not as often. I would have to agree that the AGP slot isn't good. It seems a little loose, in fact--it is easy to push the card into the slot. Anyhow, now I have to call A2Z and try either another ABIT or argue for my $ back. I wish I'd have bought an Asus P2B.

My puter only boots 50% of the time. When it fails, I get beep codes of 1 long, 3 short. It happens with both Creative Labs AGP video cards. If I remove the video card, I get the same beep codes. I have to cycle power a few times to get the stoopid box to boot. Apparently there is some problem allocating resources.
Should I can the mb or the CL video cards? Suggestings very welcome.

Hi Mallen,
The fact that it boots sometimes tends to suggest an intermittent hardware failure rather than any specific problem with the ABIT and the CL's. As far as I know there are no problems with the ABIT R2 and either the Banshee or the TNT - well not that make the card disappear anyway!
It sounds like your AGP socket is faulty.
AGP cards can be very difficult to get right in the socket. In fact certain manufacturers use Nylon ties to hold the cards right into the socket. Check that the screw at the back is not lifting the card out slightly. It only needs a tiny amount to mess things up.
All the best.......
