Just installed XP Pro...bye bye win98..My only complaint is that I saved my favorites folder from win98 to a slaved drive..got everything I put there back on this machine, but for some reason it(xp) don't see 99.9% of my web links in my favorites folder on my hard drive I was storing my backups on..WHY????

Did you just copy the contents of the windows\favorites folder into the C:\Documents and Settings\********\Favorites folder?
Or did you stick them somewhere else.
******** is the username you are using.
If you stick them in the 'all users' folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites) you'll run into trouble.
Oh, and welcome to the current millenium :)

actually what I did was copy the favorites folder from my win98 hard drive onto a spare drive I was using as a back up. I put it on the root of the drive. I connected the spare drive to my xp drive so I could copy all my stuff over..and my "favorites" folder only had a couple of bookmarks, instead of the hunderds that I had..Its like, XP can't read them or something...

actually the backup drive that I was using had Novell on it..All I wanted was a place to put my backups..for some reason XP wouldn't see them..I shall do some investigating tomorrow..but I'm guessing I'll have to redo ALL my bookmarks...:(
oh, and one more thing: HI HI HI!!! :D

Win XP is capable of reading just about any type of partition other than a linux one, although you can get utils that will let it read even those.
Why didn't you use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard? It runs directly from the XP CD (under 98 if you want) and will collect pretty much anything you want it to. Favourites, documents, internet settings, the lot.

You sure you copied the right folder over....
C:\windows\profiles\username\favorites\
not
C:\windows\favorites
or
C:\windows\profiles\allusers\favorites
or
C:\windows\profiles\wronguser\favorites
:p
My support for floppys has expired too - i got no floppy on my laptop ;)

Don't forget the XP post install routine.
Remove XP Hd to the back yard and thrash to within an inch of it's life.
Let it know who's boss.
Make sure said hd is within warranty and prepare to Rma. :D

I prefer macadamias. They are the king of all nuts, and what every cheap little peanut aspires to.
