I have a Western Digital 6.4G Hdd. I have checked the box in device manager for DMA, and things seem to work OK. But is this the correct thing to do? Is it faster or slower?
I guess I have a 50-50 chance of being right!!

Thanks in advance...

DMA Wins!! Thanks Mucho for the HD Tach link!!

The whole purpose of DMA/UDMA is not so much as to increase access speed, but to relieve the overhead from the CPU to the MB chipset, thus freeing up the CPU to do other work.

FYI:
There's a utility called HDTach you can download to measure how much of a difference this makes in terms of CPU usage and speed. Don't remember exactly what the URL was so you'll need to do searh at one of few hardware sites.
